How can CBD alleviate anxiety?

Written By Andrew Freedman

Cannabidiol, is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. Studies have suggested that CBD may have anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) effects, potentially by interacting with the body’s own endocannabinoid system, which regulates mood and other bodily functions.

However, more research is needed to fully understand how it may alleviate anxiety, and it should not be considered a substitute for evidence-based treatments such as therapy and medication. It’s important to consult with a healthcare professional before taking CBD or any other supplement to treat anxiety.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. It is one of over 100 compounds known as cannabinoids, which are responsible for the plant’s effects on the body.

Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis, CBD does not produce the “high” commonly associated with cannabis use. Instead, it has been found to have a number of potential therapeutic uses, such as reducing anxiety, pain, and inflammation.

It can be taken in many forms such as oil, capsules, gummies or topical creams. It’s worth noting that the products available for purchase may not have been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and may not be of the same quality or contain the same amount as advertised.

How Can You Digest CBD?

There are several ways to take CBD, including:

  1. Oral ingestion: it can be taken orally in the form of capsules, gummies, or oil drops. When taken this way, the CBD is absorbed into the bloodstream through the digestive system.
  2. Sublingual: BD oil or tinctures can be taken sublingually (under the tongue) by placing a few drops there and holding it for 30 seconds before swallowing. This allows the CBD to be absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the blood vessels under the tongue.
  3. Topical: applied topically in the form of creams, lotions, or balms. It is absorbed through the skin and can be used to target specific areas of the body.
  4. Inhalation: CBD can be inhaled by using a vaporizer or e-cigarette. It is absorbed into the bloodstream through the lungs.

It’s important to note that the bioavailability of the CBD may vary depending on the method of consumption, therefore the effects may vary as well. It’s also important to talk to a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen.
